Math Specialist

Helios is seeking a half-time math specialist for Algebra 1 and Precalculus with the possibility of a full-time position. The Helios math program aims to develop in our math students excellent conceptual understanding, fluency, and problem-solving skills.  Students are placed in math levels by readiness rather than age.  Weekly teacher-led math circles encourage students to go beyond the level of concrete, representational, and abstract math to generalize, explain, and investigate their own questions.

Our program uses the Art of Problem Solving curriculum at the upper levels.  Half-time math teachers are responsible for teaching two sections of mathematics courses per year, including leading the math circle for these classes.

Helios School is an innovative, independent school community for gifted children in grades K-8.  We offer gifted children an opportunity to grow, lead, and thrive through a student-centered community, interdisciplinary theme-based learning, opportunities to direct their own learning, and connection to issues in the wider world.  Our program is based on project-based, progressive, and constructivist curricula that focus on expeditionary learning and experiential education.  The School’s small class sizes support a personalized approach to instruction and the opportunity to develop strong connections with pupils.  Our passionate educators collaborate to create and continuously improve an exceptional program that reflects our mission “to provide engaging and imaginative education that meets the unique intellectual, social and emotional needs of gifted students and families.”

We are seeking candidates who:

• Are high-caliber professionals who are creative, innovative, and have a growth mindset
• Are interested in teaching in a multi-aged classroom
• Have a passion for math that they want to communicate to their students
• Are interested in learning to lead math circles
• Have a bachelor’s or higher degree (STEM field preferred)
